Usability Test and Redesigning a Task Flow- Splitting an Expense
2024
— The Splitwise app allows users to create groups, add expenses, choose equal or unequal splits, and clearly see who owes what, reducing misunderstandings and manual calculations. The core aim of this assignment was to evaluate and improve the usability of the “Split an Expense” task.

PROJECT STATEMENT
The expense-splitting task in the app lacked clarity and efficiency, leading to confusion and longer task completion time for users.
The task “Split an Expense” was evaluated by breaking it into clear subtasks and conducting structured usability testing. Insights were used to identify usability issues and redefine the task flow for a more intuitive and efficient experience.
The project involved mapping the task into five subtasks and conducting usability tests with a subject matter expert and first-time users. Findings were analyzed using usability heuristics to identify problematic UI elements. Based on these insights, I redesigned the flow and validated improvements through re-testing and time-based performance comparison.

Each design decision supports clarity and ease of use, ensuring users can split expenses quickly, accurately, and without friction.
